NorthBay Medical Center has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine publishes annual ratings for medical specialties, procedures and conditions designed to assist patients and their doctors in choosing where to receive care for common health disorders and elective procedures.

The Fairfield hospital tied for the No. 50 spot on the best hospitals list in California.

On the national assessment it earned a “High Performing” rating for one specialty — urology — and also achieved “High Performing” ratings for six specific specialty procedures and conditions: diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia and stroke.

The ratings single out care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for these types of care.

“We are extremely proud to have earned these ratings,” said Aimee Brewer, president of NorthBay Health Group. “It’s a testament to the commitment of our entire patient care team to making continued advancements in the way we provide outstanding care to our community.”

NorthBay President and CEO Konard Jones agreed. “These rankings, across such a broad range of specialties show our commitment to advancing health in our community by providing the highest level of care. We’re very proud of the physicians, nurses, technicians and staff who dedicate themselves each day to providing compassionate care and advanced medicine, close to home.”

For the 2021-22 ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 17 procedures and conditions. Fewer than a third of all hospitals received any high-performing rating, and only 11 earned that rating in all procedures and conditions.

The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions rating is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators.

NorthBay Medical Center also had seven specialties and procedures that were recognized for the standard of care delivered: back surgery, COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, hip fracture, hip replacement, and knee replacement.

“This year’s expanded report from U.S. News includes new ratings for important procedures and conditions to help each patient pick the right hospital for the type of care they need,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “Hospitals faced incredible challenges this past year, and the best of them have provided great care throughout the pandemic and continue to offer excellent care today.”
