Pantea Pahlavan, MD
Hospitalist, OB/GYN
Years of studying and practicing medicine has led me to a strong belief in my care philosophy. I believe patients are partners in their own healthcare and should be encouraged to be fully informed and self-advocates.
Being an OB/GYN has allowed me to enjoy an enduring relationship with my patients over the years and is one of the few specialties to do so outside of family medicine and pediatrics. I love working with women. Bringing new life into the world is such a joyous occasion and momentous part of a woman’s life. I also thrive on solving medical problems and procedure-based medicine, which is why I’m trained in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and robotic surgery. In addition, I have a special interest in menopause care and am proudly certified as a menopause practitioner by the North American Menopause Society. I also treat abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids, abnormal pap smears, endometriosis, and ovarian cysts.
I consider myself a compassionate doctor. I’m a good listener who believes in empowering patients with knowledge to help in their self-care. There’s no better way to understand a patient than to be one, and of course I have firsthand experience in that regard.
The greatest joys in my workday are the times I have positive interactions with the patients in my care.
In my free time, I love to travel, exercise, and read. Yet, as a mother of two teenagers, I feel as though I rarely have time for anything more than being a doctor, mother, and daughter.

Below is a list of plans accepted by all NorthBay Health providers unless designated as an independent community doctor.
While we strive to keep this list up to date, it's always a good idea to check with your health plan to determine the specific details of your coverage, and to contact the provider's office to verify acceptance of your particular plan.
For so many people, having a baby is by far the biggest and happiest day of their life, and as an OB/GYN is am really fortunate that I get to experience that with them. It is quite an honor, actually.
The patients I see are hospital-based, as opposed to being seen in a clinic. I treat a wide range of obstetric and gynecologic conditions, mostly pregnancy-related, but also some emergent gynecologic conditions.
It’s important for me to take the time to explain to my patients what their condition is, and to work with them to outline a post-hospital plan of care. My goal is to deliver high quality, personalized care for my patients, by emphasizing empathy, compassion and holistic health. It’s my personal philosophy and believe that is why I’ve been told I have a good bedside manner.
By actively listening to my patients about their concerns, I am able to not only meet their unique needs and address their physical symptoms, but also the emotional, social and cultural aspects of their lives. My commitment is to open communication and shared decision-making, because that empowers my patients to actively participate in their health care journey and achieve optimal health outcomes.
When not at work, I am probably exercising or training for a triathalon, or tending to my garden. I am also interested in computer programming and have created a few applications, as well.
