Frequently-asked questions

Northbay Health’s Integrative Primary Care physicians are highly qualified, board-certified specialists in internal medicine or family medicine.

Our IPC providers also have advanced training in lifestyle medicine, integrative medicine, functional medicine, medical acupuncture and osteopathic medicine.

Probably the most compelling difference is that an IPC physician blends the best of conventional medicine with personalized testing and evidence-based lifestyle/integrative medicine treatments and therapies. This allows you and your physician to take a deeper look into your health status and take a proactive approach to improving your health and prioritizing preventive care.

In addition, the Northbay Health IPC physicians practice from a medical group location that is part of the Northbay Health integrated health network.

The participation fee constitutes payment for extended appointment times, advanced laboratory testing, individualized care protocols and on-site health and wellness specialists not covered by your medical insurance, including Medicare plans.

Participation currently costs $100 monthly, or you can choose instead to pay the reduced annual rate of $1,150.

The program participation fee for IPC participants is necessary to allow for the incorporation of advanced testing and on-site lifestyle and integrative therapies into your integrative medicine plan of care.

Therapies include, but are not limited to, advanced lab testing, personalized protocols and access to on-site specialists in nutrition, functional movement, stress management, sleep and acupuncture. The program participation fee also allows for a smaller patient panel for each IPC physician, enabling them to spend more time with each IPC patient during office visits.

No. For office visits, general lab services, imaging and hospital stays, insurance companies will continue to be billed directly and the standard copay and coinsurance will apply. The purpose of the participation fee is to ensure extended appointment times, personalized testing protocols and lifestyle/integrative therapies. The participation fee is not covered by medical insurance or Medicare.

Yes. The IPC program does not take the place of general heath insurance coverage. Insurance companies will be billed directly for all primary care office visits, and the standard coppay will apply.

The purpose of the participation fee is to offer access to the advanced lab testing, personalized protocols, lifestyle and integrative therapies prescribed by your IPC physician. But the participation fee is not covered by medical insurance, including Medicare.

Access to a primary care physician who blends the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based integrative and lifestyle medicine therapies is probably the most compelling reason someone would participate in the program.

For example, someone with acute migraine attacks may desire pain relief beyond medication. The IPC care team might incorporate diet changes, acupuncture and/or meditation to the participant’s plan of care to reduce, and possibly eliminate, the need for prescription medication. A program that promotes and facilitates physician and lifestyle/integrative provider collaboration to enhance each participant’s healthcare experience might be a better option than a traditional primary care clinic experience for some patients.

No, not at this time. The enhanced annual lab testing, group lifestyle classes and on site lifestyle and integrative services are components of the Integrative Primary Care program and are available only to enrolled IPC participants. They are not offered separately or on an individual, pay-per-service basis. To access these services, patients must establish care with an IPC physician as their primary care provider and enroll in the program through the program participation fee.

This is by design: your IPC physician uses your enhanced lab results, health history and personal goals to build your individualized plan of care, and the lifestyle and integrative services are delivered as part of that plan. Offering labs or classes on their own would separate them from the physician partnership that makes the program effective. If additional service options become available in the future, we will share that information with our patients and community.

Many people choose the Integrative Primary Care for its focus on preventive care. The program helps establish a health baseline and provides a path toward optimal long-term wellness.

Our primary care team can connect you with a specialist within the extensive Northbay Health network. We’ll collaborate with these experts to ensure you receive the full continuum of care.

Anyone aged 19 or above can be part of the Integrative Primary Care in Napa.

Yes, patients have the ability to terminate the participation agreement at any time. If you find the IPC program is not for you, we will be happy to assist your search for another traditional primary care provider.

If you decide not to follow your provider to the IPC program, you will need to select a new primary care provider that matches your healthcare needs and philosophy.
