The average healthy woman begins menopause at 51, though some women will begin in their 40s or in their late 50s. It's a natural biological process that marks the time when a woman ends her menstrual cycle. Menopause is defined as 12 months without a period.

NorthBay Health’s clinical collaborators at Mayo Clinic join us in reminding women that mood swings, hot flashes and difficulty sleeping are common symptoms and lifestyle changes can help relieve these temporary symptoms. Please see your doctor to discuss other possible treatments if your symptoms are not relieved by these changes.

“If you are not sure if you are going through menopause or have questions about your symptoms, please speak to your doctor,” said NorthBay obstetrician and gynecologist Stella Huang, D.O. “It’s always good to have an OB/GYN because we can manage your life in all phases. Our bodies continue to change and we can help you navigate those changes and understand that they are a normal part of life.”

Talk with a doctor from NorthBay Women's Services at (707) 646-4100 to learn more about how you can manage your menopause symptoms.
