Could Red Light Therapy Help You?
If Red Light Therapy sounds too good to be true, it’s time to do some research.
The healing quality of red light was first discovered during a U.S. space shuttle flight in 1995. While doing experiments with plant growth, astronauts noticed scratches on their hands beginning to heal.
“Nothing heals in space, so NASA funded many years of research with these lights for human trials,” said Janis Eels, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Biolmedical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in a Forbes Health website article.
It was learned that red and near-infrared light penetrates cells, muscle tissues and nerve tissues deeper than other light, and stimulates energy production in cells.
In current research, Red Light Therapy (RLT) has proven beneficial in improving skin appearance, healing wounds, enhancing blood circulation, reducing inflammation and more.
Now that the FDA has given the green light to Red Light Therapy devices, treatment opportunities are starting to become available.
Although not everyone will experience the same results, documented benefits include a reduction in pain, detoxification and reduction of inflammation; better sleep; higher energy levels; and a revitalization of skin health. Some have reported an enhanced mental health, improved weight loss, a reduction in circumference (inches) and quicker muscle recovery. Individuals with arthritis have reported temporary relief for muscle pain and spasms.
Red light technology triggers a natural cellular response, accelerating healing by aiding in lymph node detoxification. It works directly with the mitochondria in fat cells to melt and release fat into the lymphatic system for elimination, thereby deflating the fat cells resulting in noticeable inch loss and fat loss.
Individuals with chronic joint discomfort are now able to integrate regular red light sessions into their therapeutic regimen to alleviate inflammation and support recovery.
RLT is not for everyone. Those with skin conditions that could be exacerbated by light exposure, those taking medications that increase light sensitivity, individuals with a history of skin cancer and pregnant women should not seek RLT. As your doctor if RLT could be right for you.
