Heart Luncheon Puts Surgeon in Spotlight
More than 100 women, and a handful of men, came to hear about the latest advances in medicine and research in cardiovascular treatment during NorthBay Healthcare’s annual Heart to Heart luncheon at the Green Valley Administration Center on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Renowned cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon Ramin E. Beygui, M.D., was the keynote speaker. Dr. Beygui joined NorthBay in July 2014 after practicing cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery for 14 years at UCLA and Stanford medical centers.
He presented a history of cardiac care, from the early days of surgery through a future that may include hearts regenerated from stem cells. He also discussed a variety of cardiac conditions and the current treatments available.
His audience was captivated, and he spent more than half an hour fielding questions from the audience. Questions ranged from “How do you diagnose an aortic aneurysm?” to “What happens to your heart after a heart attack?” When the session was over, he stayed to answer individual questions privately.
Guests enjoyed chicken salad, fruits, bread and desserts, and left with heart-shaped ice packs.
